The Libeert family
A story of passion for chocolate
In 1923, founding father Joseph Dequeker starts a chocolate company in Izegem, with the name “Italo Suisse”. But in Izegem, everyone knows it as “The Little Chocolate Factory”. Italo Suisse refers to the 2 countries where Joseph learned to make chocolate. His mission? To use his experiences to make real Belgian chocolate.
In the 30's, production moves from Izegem to Roeselare.
Chocolate figures, a new story
Daughter Thérèse takes control of the business together with her husband Antoine Libeert, and together they explore the market of hollow chocolate figures. And it turns out to be a success. These fun figures make children happy during holidays like Easter and Saint Nicholas. Eating or seeing a piece of Libeert chocolate is enough to bring back memories.
Never too old for chocolate
Due to their success, even more hollow figures are added, and the range of chocolate is expanded. The third generation starts producing tablets and pralines. From then on, people of all ages can enjoy Libeert chocolate, in all shapes and sizes.
Delicious stories
In 2013, the great-grandchildren of the founder take over the business, and in 2015 the company name is changed to Libeert. The new name shows that this is truly a family business. Ready for the future, providing chocolate inspiration to all generations to make delicious memories.
We want more
Everywhere in the world people enjoy delicious Libeert chocolate. This chocolate is still made according to the old (secret) family recipe. While the chocolate didn't change, the world did. The 4th generation of Libeert puts extra focus on social responsibility. Together with the non-profit organisations Cocoa Horizons and Cunina, we purchase 100% sustainable cocoa and try to offer the cocoa farmers a better future. We have also made our packaging sustainable. All this while preserving the excellent quality and delicious flavour of our chocolate.
Libeert is 100 years old!
In 2023 we have a lot to celebrate, because Libeert is 100 years old! An important milestone, which will give our products a quality label. In honour of this special anniversary, we commissioned a festive anniversary logo. And 100 years may seem old, but we don't feel old at all: we keep renewing and innovating to guarantee economical and safe production of our chocolate, use sustainable packaging and get a little better every day. Because chocolate that is good for the planet tastes even better.
